The year 2013 will see the eyes of the world focus on Bali for many reasons. The island will play host to world leaders at the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) meeting in October and the World Trade Organization meeting in December. We will also welcome the competitors in the Miss World pageant for a short stay before the crowning ceremony in Jakarta in September.
With world-class events such as these, it is important that Bali has the capacity to cope with increased demands on its transport systems, as well as first-rate hotels and resorts. For this reason, we welcome the infrastructure developments that are on course for completion in 2013, as well as the new hotel openings listed below.
New hotel openings:

Bali by numbers:
  • Five top foreign market: Australia (29%), China (9%), Japan (7%), Malaysia (6%) and Taiwan (5%). -BPS Statistics Indonesia, 2011

  • 56% of all arrivals to Bali are domestic travellers with the remaining 46% from overseas. -Ngurah Rai International Airport/Angkasa Pura, 2013
  • Average BHA members occupancy in 2012 is 64.1% per month and in the month of December, it was 71%. -Horwath HTL., 2013.
  • Based on Indonesia’s Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) figures, there were more than 22,000 hotel rooms available in Bali by the end of 2011. In 2012, more than 3,400 additional hotel rooms are expected to enter the market. Subsequently, another 4,700 rooms are slated for opening in 2013, and a further 4,100 rooms from 2014 to 2016. Accordingly, more than 12,000 new rooms are expected to enter the market by the end of 2016.

Miss Universe 2012 Olivia Culpo paid a visit to Bali. Ms. Olivia Culpo is the American beauty pageant titleholder , a 21 year old woman born in Cranston, Rhode Island,USA visited Ubud, Gianyar, Bali, on Wednesday late afternoon (6 Feb 2013 )
Being accompanied by the newly elected Miss Indonesia 2013 Whulandari Herman, the beauty pageants were entertained with a gala dinner at the Sapu Lidi Resort,Pengosekan Ubud.
In the happy happening blended with the inaugural opening of Sapu Lidi Resort, a number of officials in the Gianyar Regency as well as the Bali Provincial administration , were also present.

The Miss Universe 2012 , who just arrived in Bali , was greeted with various Balinese arts and cultural performances. "In the presence of Miss Universe 2012, we would like to keep our community assured that Sapu Lidi is sincerely keen on boosting Ubud’s image and its tourism in the international community," cited Bob Doank, the founder and owner of Sapu Lidi Resort, Ubud Bali.

Sapu Lidi was previously engaged in operating various stores of jeans in Bandung, West Java, and had its booming business or heyday in the 1980s. In 1999 Sapu Lidi started branching out its business line to culinary or restaurant business and presently have developed in to accommodation with its unique concept of a signature restaurant in the region, where the patrons or visitors can savor their meals above the sprawling rice fields.
