Bali News: Brett Farmer Named Australian Consul-General to Bali
(11/13/2010) Kevin Rudd, the Australian Foreign Minister, has formally announced the appointment of Brett Farmer as the new Consulate-General for Australia in Bali. Farmer assumes the job formerly held by Lex Bartlem, OAM, who has been shifted to Beirut in an ambassadorial role.
Farmer is expected to begin his Bali assignment in December 2010.
In announcing the appointment, Rudd emphasized how Australia's association with Bali is both longstanding and growing. He said that Australia's official, community and business links with the island province represent an important part of Australia's broader relationship with Indonesia.
Farmer is a career officer of Australia's Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade with an extensive background in consular services. He is currently Counselor (Administration) and Consul-General at the Australian High Commission, New Delhi. Farmer has previously served overseas in Hanoi, Abu Dhabi, Dhaka, Colombo, Manila, Bangkok, Dar es Salaam and Jakarta.
