Musical Charm of Taiwan

DENPASAR—Musicians from Taipei National University of the Arts (TNUA) made a fascinating presentation at Bali Arts Festival (BAF) XXX. These overseas participating artists consisting of lecturers and students of Traditional Music Department of TNUA conferred valuable lesson to Balinese community on the meaning of pure love for the ancestral heritage art such as Nanguan and Beiguan music. “Trick” of the charm generated by these foreign musicians was commenced by musical composition entitled Iu-pai-chi (butterfly), Iu-khek (flower of pomegranate) and Hi-khek (black clay basin). Such presentation filled with enchantment was ended with an ensemble entitled Bungan Sandat (ylang-ylang). This evergreen composition of Balinese pop song made by Balinese renowned composer, A.A. Made Cakra was re-arranged by the students of TNUA so that it could “aspirate” its newness. They played the musical composition by combining the instruments like Nanguan, Beiguan and Pipe that produced Bungan Sandat with a Taiwanese “flavor”. .
